BHG at london bridge 1996-99
In 1996 Bedford Hill Gallery opened a new 3,000 sq ft gallery in Great Suffolk Street at London Bridge after being forced by Wandsworth Council to leave their premises and close their community art centre in Balham.
The gallery offered cheap studio space for over a 100 artists and free exhibitions to up- and- coming artists. The Gallery run a pioneering ‘artist - in – residence’ scheme offering free studio space for 6 months followed by a free exhibition. Over this 3 year period the Gallery reached its ultimate goal by promoting young, talented artists and offering them a chance to promote themselves in the professional London gallery.
