Children's Art for Children, 2000

The Children’s Art for Children project is an ongoing community art project which was launched in 2000 by Toyah Willcox in children’s ward of St Georges Hospital, Wandsworth and has 6 exhibitions in 5 different London boroughs.

The idea of the project is to motivate local school children into becoming involved in community arts by providing them with an opportunity to create art for disadvantaged children staying in local hospitals and day centres across London. The project channels the children’s artistic creativity towards achieving an end goal, bringing colour and brightening up the lives of children in hospital, whose benefits they can clearly understand. Feedback from children who have participated in the Children’s Art for Children project confirms that the project is as valuable in inspiring a sense of civic service in young people as it is in honing their artistic skills.
