Cultural Exchange
london - kathmandu / kathmandu - london

The Children’s Art for Children project has been very successful in London. The Bedford Hill Gallery, in an ambitious and exciting new expansion of the concept, took 100 paintings produced by children in London schools to exhibit them in three orphanages and Kanti Children’s Hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal. In return, paintings produced by Nepalese children were brought back to London to be exhibited in children’s hospitals and day centres across the capital.

The Bedford Hill Gallery had art materials and specially designed T-shirts shipped to the children in Nepal who participated in the project in the orphanages and Kanti Children’s Hospital in Kathmandu. There are two collections of photographs by Vanja Karas showing the work in situ and the Gallery's representatives visiting and helping with the hanging of the pictures. See links right.

The Gallery has also sponsored two Nepalese children to study at art college in Kathmandu for the next year. Additionally as representative of their sixty colleagues in Nepal, they will be flown to the UK later in the year to attend the opening of the Nepali Art Show in St Mary's Hospital. The works currently on show at St Mary's will form the body of work to be shown in Belgrade, Serbia. The Gallery's next cultural exchange, of which more later!
